Fathi continues loan at FSV Mainz 05

FSV Mainz 05 have been able to extend the loan spell of left-back Malik Fathi until June 2011, with the option to purchase the player at the end of the season.
Currently contracted to Russian side Spartak Moscow, Fathi spent the second half of last season at the German club where he played 14 matches and scored one goal.
«We are very pleased that the transfer has gone through,» Mainz coach Christian Heidel told the club's official website. «Fathi has done a lot of defending over the past six minths, but has also become an important member of our team.
“We have always said that we would make the transfer in light of our economic opportunities. The consent by Spartak Moscow only came literally at the last minute.
”He will definitely strengthen our team,» Heidel added.
The 26-year-old wing-back is delighted that he can remain at the club.
«I felt very comfortable at the club and in the city, so I am pleased to return to Mainz,» concluded Fathi.
